Carter Greenbaum is the Founding Partner of the New York office of the Greenbaum Law Group. He specializes in judgment enforcement, commercial collection, complex civil litigation, trial practice, and class actions involving consumer protection and privacy.

Before opening the New York office of the Greenbaum Law Group, Carter practiced law at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison for eight years. He graduated from Princeton University, B.A., Summa Cum Laude, and Yale Law School. He has successfully represented multinational financial institutions, venture capital firms, manufacturers, and the world’s largest technology corporations in bet-the-company litigation. He also has substantial experience in consumer protection and data privacy involving enforcement actions by the Federal Trade Commission and the New York Attorney General and in class actions. He routinely advises clients on collection, advertising, and privacy best practices and high-stakes matters involving class actions, contract disputes, and other matters.

Carter’s Notable Representations Include:

  • A large U.S. drug store chain at arbitration involving its former CEO, resulting in dismissal of all claims against the client and a multi-million dollar award on the client’s counterclaim;
  • The former CEO of a multi-national retailer in judgment enforcement proceedings across numerous jurisdictions, resulting in the successful collection of the entire award;
  • The Special Committee of the Board at a high-profile media company involving litigation concerning its merger with another multinational media company. 
  • A leading retailer in the successful settlement of a DOJ and FTC lawsuit over children’s voice information collected by its voice-activated services;
  • A leading healthcare company in a favorable settlement of an enforcement action by the NYAG involving allegations of violations of HIPAA;
  • A leading private equity company in the dismissal of derivative claims against it in Delaware Chancery Court following a favorable representation and settlement in bankruptcy proceedings; and
  • A large financial institution in the defense of a multi-billion-dollar arbitration, resulting in the dismissal of all claims

Carter has argued before the New York and New Jersey appellate divisions, in various federal and state courts, and before numerous JAMS and ICC arbitration panels.

Carter graduated from Yale Law School and Princeton University, Summa Cum Laude, where he won numerous awards for his senior thesis on international commercial arbitration and received Princeton’s highest honor for creative writing. He clerked for the Hon. Wendy Beetlestone in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
